The gauge adopts the magnetic and eddy current principle to measure in a non-destructive way the thickness of non-magnetic coatings on magnetic metallic base (e.g. zinc, aluminum, Cr. Copper, rubber, paint, coating on the base of steel, iron, alloy and hard magnetic steel etc.) and the thickness of non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic metallic base (e.g. rubber, paint, plastics and enamel coating on the base of copper, aluminum, zinc, tin etc.).
a)Magnetic method (F probe)
When the probe contacts the coating, the probe will form up a closed magnetic circuit with the magnetic metal base; the magnetic resistance of the magnetic circuit will change due to the non-magnetic coating. One can deduce the thickness of the coating by measuring the change.
b)eddy current method (N probe)
The high frequency current generates a high frequency magnetic field in the coil. When the probe contacts the coating, it will induce an eddy current in the metallic substrate and have feed back to the coil in the probe. By measuring the feedback, one can deduce the thickness of the coating.
